Let Your Light Shine: The Power of Revealing Christ Within

The Lamp in the Corner: A Simple but Powerful Illustration

Standing quietly in the corner of my study, it waits—sometimes for hours, even days. It's just a lamp.

It has everything it needs to function properly: a bulb, a cord, and it’s plugged into a power source. But still, it won’t shine until one small thing happens—the switch must be turned on.

Jesus, the Light of the World

Jesus said in John 8:12:

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

If we’ve accepted Jesus Christ into our lives, then we carry the Light of Life within us. So why, then, is there still so much darkness in the world? Why does it seem that, despite the presence of Christians everywhere, the world is not filled with light?

Why the World Still Feels Dark

The answer is simple.

Just like my lamp only lights up the study when it’s switched on, the light of Christ within us only shines when we allow it to. If the door and window to my study are closed, the lamp’s glow stays hidden. But if I open the window, that light can reach the road outside and even the fields beyond.

The same is true with the Light of Christ. Unless we open our hearts and our lives, others won’t see the light we carry. The world remains in darkness not because the light isn’t present—but because it’s not being revealed.

Shine the Light Within You

We’re called not just to receive Christ’s light but to share it.

Yes, we should guard our hearts and be wise about the influences around us. But we also must let Christ’s light shine through our actions, our words, and our compassion. When we do, others will be drawn to that light—and to the hope it brings.

So, open up—just a little.

Let people see the joy, peace, and beauty that come from having Jesus Christ in your life. No matter what the world is going through, you carry the Light that overcomes darkness.

You have Jesus Christ.
