The Power of News vs. the Word of God: A Call for Reflection
It’s fascinating how a two-minute clip on a news channel, combined with comments from an unknown, biased writer, can have such a profound impact on society. This happens every day as news reporters share their opinions and carefully select pictures or videos. Suddenly, a large majority of people adopt an opinion, which is then plastered all over social media. Relationships are strained—and sometimes even broken—because of stands made based on such news reports.
Yet, most of us have an entire Bible sitting in our homes, filled with eternal truths from God Almighty. Unfortunately, it often remains unread or may only be glanced at briefly. We are typically very cautious about discussing what we read from the Bible, fearing that others may be offended or uncomfortable.
Wouldn't it be better to be students of the Word rather than passive consumers of news? 2 Timothy 2:15 states, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."
Consider this challenge: what if we timed ourselves for one day to compare how much time we spend reading and studying the Word of God versus how much time we spend on social media or watching television? After completing this 24-hour challenge, we may gain a clearer understanding of why society is in such a fix.
