Learning to Love What God Loves and Hate What He Hates

I hate folding fitted sheets! There, I said it, and I’m sticking to it! I've read about how to fold a fitted sheet and even watched YouTube videos on the subject. But the fact is, I still hate folding fitted sheets!

Hate is a strong word, and as we look at the world around us, we often see too much hate. However, as Christians, we are reminded in Scripture that even God hates certain things. According to Proverbs 6:16-19, the Bible is clear: "There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."

This leads to an important question: "Do I hate the same things that God hates?" If we’re honest, we often find ourselves guilty of the very things that God detests. We may quickly say that we love God and want Him to be a part of our lives, especially when we are struggling. But do we love and hate as God does?

As followers of Christ, we are called to serve as His ambassadors to a lost world. To do so effectively, we must align our hearts with His, loving what He loves and hating what He hates. However, this is often a struggle for me. It’s easy to get tangled up in the “fitted sheets” of life, looking for other options and distractions. Just like when I struggle with the flesh and begin focusing on everything but my Lord Jesus Christ.

My prayer should be that God helps me to hate what He hates and love what He loves. Only then can I truly serve Him and be used more effectively in His ministry.
