Why Your Fast Isn’t Being Heard: Lessons from Isaiah 58:4 for Spiritual Growth
Isaiah 58:4 (b) states, “You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.” Whether or not you regularly practice fasting, there's a powerful spiritual truth in this passage that speaks to every believer seeking growth and transformation.
You Can't Keep Doing the Same Thing and Expect a Different Result
Far too often, we fall into the trap of routine. We do the same things the same way and wonder why our prayers go unanswered or why we’re not experiencing deeper spiritual growth. While traditions and good habits certainly have their place, there must also be moments when the Holy Spirit breathes something new into us—a fresh wind of change.
Remaining the same indefinitely can lead to spiritual stagnation. We become stale, stuck, and ineffective. But Jesus changed things. While His message and mission were always rooted in unshakable truth, His methods were dynamic, engaging, and often challenged the status quo. He lived on the cutting edge—always reaching, always making a difference.
Are We Reaching Beyond Our Comfort Zone?
Recently, during a meeting with a group of devoted, God-fearing, Bible-believing saints, I posed a question: What are we doing to reach beyond our group? It’s easy to stay within the warm familiarity of our comfort zones, doing what we enjoy and what feels safe. But is that what Jesus did?
Did Jesus remain in the comfort of His heavenly throne, watching the world from a distance? No—He stepped down into our brokenness and got involved. He engaged, He served, and He sacrificed. His entire life was a demonstration of what it means to be a Difference Maker.
Make a Small Change—See a Big Difference
We may be far from perfect, but we can still follow Christ’s example. Even small changes in our daily routine—praying with someone, serving outside our normal circles, or simply being intentional about showing love—can create a ripple effect.
Do something different today. Step outside the usual. Break the mold. You might be surprised by the outcome, and more importantly, by the way God shows up when you move with Him.
