The Last Goodbye: Making the Most of Every Moment

The last goodbye, the last meal, the last handshake, and even the last glance—they happen every day, and suddenly, a life is changed forever. I have to be honest and say I do not like the “last” of anything. The last spoonful of homemade ice cream is both the best and the worst because I always want just one more bite. I’ve heard people say they wish they could share just one more word, hug, or thought with their spouse, friend, or parent.

Why do we assume there will always be another chance to make those “last” statements? Why do we work so hard to make just a few more dollars, thinking that extra money will make a significant difference in our lives?

As Christians, perhaps it’s time to remember that this life is temporary and, in reality, really short. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” But then comes the question: Why? Why is it important to be aware that our days are limited? Because we need to make the most of every day!

We need to keep smiling, sharing, hugging, caring, and giving. I know some people who hoard things, thinking that accumulating more will bring happiness or a sense of security. However, the truth is, they will never get enough.

Jesus’ Example of Investing in People

When Jesus walked this earth, He did not invest in material things—He invested in people’s lives. We should learn from His example and be intentional with our time, especially with others. John 15:15 says, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

The Power of True Friendships

Everything that truly matters can be tied to the few, genuine friends you have. Take care of those relationships, and you will be truly blessed.
