Finding Peace Through Life’s Tribulations | Encouragement from John 16:33
It was a special day, and we enjoyed every moment of it.
It was a meaningful celebration, filled with wonderful memories and hopes for the future.
It was a powerful meeting of the minds, where many great ideas were discussed and exciting plans were made.
We love those special moments—but in reality, life also brings a flood of tribulations. From flat tires and workplace bullies to broken relationships and health scares, trials come in many forms: the hateful spouse, the disobedient children, the unexpected speeding ticket, the negative test results, the pain of a heart that beats too fast—or too slow—the return of cancer, or even the shattered dish that once held sentimental value. Life’s tribulations are countless and often overwhelming.
Should we be surprised? No. Jesus said in John 16:33 (NKJV):
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
Some within the Church focus on the tribulations described in end-times prophecy. But for many people going through hardship right now, the concept of future tribulation feels distant. When you’re in pain or despair, struggling just to get through the day, it’s hard to think about what’s to come. For them, the “end” already feels near—and the weight of their burden is pushing them toward unhealthy thoughts or decisions.
When someone is hurting, they don’t need to be avoided or dismissed. They may just need a warm hug, a listening ear, or even a small, comforting gesture—like a handful of M&M’s. Special times will come, but they will also pass. And life, inevitably, will get hard again.
So, perhaps the best response is this: be kind. Be gentle. Be patient. You never know the battles someone else is facing.
