Finding Peace in the Storm: The Power of "But Jesus"
It was raining again. It seemed as though the rain would never end, as dark clouds continued to roll and rumble endlessly. Everyone was tired of the gloomy weather, and there was a growing consensus that sunshine was desperately needed.
In Matthew 8, when the Disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee, following the directions of Jesus, a storm suddenly rushed over them. They became anxious—not only were they weary of the thunder and rain, but fear set in as the waves began to crash against their small boat.
Much like the Disciples, we often face the “rain” in our own lives. Life’s storms—whether in the form of problems, illnesses, financial struggles, or relationship difficulties—can overwhelm us. In those moments, we can feel just as the Disciples did in Matthew 8. They were tired, worried, and afraid of what might happen next.
However, in Matthew 8:24, right in the middle of the verse, there are two powerful words: "...but Jesus..."
The Importance of "But Jesus" in Life’s Storms
In the storms of life, the most important thing we must remember is to be mindful of those two powerful words: "...but Jesus..." No matter what we face—whether it’s good, bad, or indifferent—remember that "but Jesus" is always there. He is closer to us than the very air we breathe.
Even when the sun doesn’t shine and the storms rage on, we can take comfort in the knowledge that “but Jesus” is present.
Take Noah, for example. He must have felt incredibly alone and burdened with the task of building the Ark, especially when everyone around him laughed, ridiculed him, and thought he was crazy. But I believe that, from time to time, God reminded Noah of His unwavering presence, offering comfort in the midst of the ridicule.
Finding Comfort in Jesus During Life’s Struggles
As I face the storms in my own life, it is a great comfort to simply remember that Jesus is always with me.
Encouragement for Fellow Christians
Fellow Christians, remember: Jesus is with you today, and always. May His presence bring you peace, comfort, and strength in every storm you face.
