Balancing Your Spiritual Life Like a Checkbook
Balancing your checkbook can be challenging if you don’t keep track of every purchase and deposit. Likewise, balancing your spiritual life can be even more difficult if you’re not spending intentional, personal time with God each day.
Just as financial balance requires consistent attention, so does spiritual growth. There are countless devotional resources—both in print and online—that can help Christians stay focused on their relationship with God. However, it's important to exercise discernment. Some gifted writers and speakers may subtly twist Scripture to support their own agendas.
This is why it’s essential for every believer to own a Bible and personally study what others teach or reference. Even when attending a church you love and trust, don’t rely solely on the words of a pastor. Read the sermon text yourself. Study it. Reflect on it.
Spiritual maturity comes from growing in God’s Word—not just from accepting what others say about it.
Ephesians 4:14 reminds us:
"Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming."
Guard your heart and your mind. Seek out resources that are biblically sound, easy to understand, and consistent with the truth of Scripture.
