A Simple Truck Stop Ministry: Sharing the Love of Christ
Over the past several months, my wife and I have passed by a truck stop on our way to church. On several occasions, I've wondered what kind of ministry the owner might have for the truckers passing through. The owner is someone I know and respect as a Christian businessman. But this past Sunday morning, something unusual happened. As I woke up, I found myself praying and thinking about that truck stop. Now, please understand something very important—I never wake up praying or thinking about anything, much less a truck stop.
In a bit of a shock, I turned over, grabbed my iPad, and sent a message to the owner.
After a few emails and some effort, we arranged to meet for about 10 minutes. He called the manager, and just like that, I found myself involved in the truck stop ministry business! Wow! That was easier than I thought.
From now on, I’ll be stopping by the truck stop daily to check on the prayer book for any prayer requests. I’ll also make sure the free materials for truckers are stocked. On top of that, starting this Sunday, I'll be offering a short devotional at 8:30 AM.
Will it change the world? Maybe not. But if just one person learns or is reminded that Jesus Christ loves them and cares about them, that will be enough for me!
God didn’t call me to reach the masses; He simply called me to be His and to be available. I admit, I can be hard-headed and self-centered at times, just like anyone else. But it excites me to think that I might have the opportunity to touch a life, help someone, lift up a broken soul, or assist someone in making the transition from this life to the next.
So, what have I been reflecting on lately? A simple little blue notebook and a few old-fashioned gospel tracks.
Share a word today—it really is a spirit-lifter!
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)
