Why Church Matters: Growing Closer to God and His Bride

Are you excited about your relationship with God and His Church? Last night, after a prayer meeting and Bible study, I felt on cloud nine. I had spent time with a group of fellow believers, laughing, talking, and studying God's holy Word. It was a powerful experience that reminded me of the incredible importance of a strong connection with both Jesus Christ and His Church.

The Importance of a Relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church

A relationship with Jesus Christ is the greatest relationship a person can have. However, the time spent with His Bride, the Church, is also a profound blessing. In Ephesians 5:25-27, we read:

"... Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless."

Jesus Christ gave His all for the Church, which is the living, breathing body of believers. The Church is not just a building or a social club; it is a community of believers united in worship, prayer, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

The True Purpose of Church

Church is not just a place to gather and have a good time; it is where believers come together to worship, pray, support one another, and learn. It is a space for spiritual growth and for experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit in fellowship with others who share the same faith.

Matthew 18:20 states, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." There is nothing more exciting than spending time in the presence of the Spirit, focusing on the Spirit, and engaging with others who have a deep desire to grow spiritually.

Why Church is Essential for Christian Growth

Church is not optional for Christians who wish to grow and serve. Unfortunately, some may view it as unnecessary or optional, especially if they find something more exciting or tempting to do, or if they simply want to sleep in. But the truth is, the body of Christ is called to gather regularly to worship and grow together in faith. The strength of our relationship with God is often enhanced by our relationships with fellow believers.

A Legacy of Faith: My Childhood Experience with Church

When I was a child, attending church was not an option or an occasional event—it was a core part of our lives. I am thankful for parents who remained committed to God and His Church, regardless of any challenges or differences they may have had with other members. They understood that Church wasn’t about individual personalities; it was about prioritizing God and making Him central in their lives. Even when they disagreed with others or found it difficult to be around certain people, they recognized that Christ was at work in everyone.
