Jesus in the Middle: Finding Peace in Life’s Chaos

Finding Peace in the Middle of Life’s Chaos

They were playing the game Hot Potato, tossing the ball back and forth, trying not to drop it. In the center of the small group, Millie lay calmly and peacefully. Despite the energy of the game—and even when someone dropped the ball and was out—Millie remained at ease. Her calm presence stood out amid the movement around her.

It reminded me of how Jesus is always in the middle of everything we do—good, bad, or messy. Sometimes we’re aware of His presence; other times, we carry on as if He’s not even there. But when we pause, even for just a few seconds, to recognize that Jesus is with us, we can find peace. No matter where we are or what we’re facing, a simple moment of reflection can calm our spirit.

Isaiah 41:10 offers a powerful reminder:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

While checking out at the grocery store recently, I noticed the name tag of the young man helping us—Isaiah. I mentioned what a great name it was, referencing the biblical prophet. He smiled and told me he was very aware of the meaning behind his name.

As we walked away, I said goodbye. But he responded with something unexpected:
"Remember Isaiah 41:10."

That moment reminded me again: just like Millie lying peacefully in the middle of that game, and just like Isaiah—both the prophet and the young man—Jesus is present in the middle of all things. And He is always at peace.
