Why Regular Church Fellowship Strengthens Your Faith
On a cold, crisp, icy morning, rolling over and taking a few extra minutes of warm sleep was tempting. However, it felt strange not to be waking up and preparing for our regular Sunday morning activities at church. Due to the inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, services were canceled. For many people, it might have been just another lazy Sunday, but for my wife and me, it was an odd departure from the norm. And honestly, that’s okay—it’s a reminder of how important church fellowship is.
As Christians, we should never take the opportunity to meet together with our church family for granted. While attending church might be part of our regular routine, it is vital to remember its significance. The act of gathering for worship is not just about tradition; it’s about honoring God and strengthening our faith.
Why Church Fellowship Is Essential
There are many places around the world where people do not have the freedoms or opportunities to worship with a church family. The Church is a unique and special community, one that we should cherish. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, the Bible reminds us: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." This encouragement and mutual support happen best when we are together, sharing in our faith.
In Acts 2:44, we see the early believers in unity, saying, "All the believers were together and had everything in common." This passage highlights the importance of community and the way the body of Christ supported each other, even amid persecution and hardship.
Going to Church Doesn’t Save You, But It Strengthens You
It’s important to remember that attending church doesn’t save you from the pit of hell, nor does it earn you points in heaven. However, regular church attendance can be a powerful force in your walk with Christ. As Hebrews 10:25 states, "Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
When we gather together, we strengthen one another and grow in our faith, building a supportive network of like-minded believers.
