Are You Truly a Christian? Understanding What It Means to Follow Christ

Have you ever considered the fact that even the Pharisees and Sadducees believed in God? They attended gatherings in the Temple and offered prayers to God, yet they were not Christians. This raises an important question: what does it truly mean to be a Christian?

In today’s world, many people believe in God, recite prayers, and perform good deeds like helping others and supporting charitable causes. Some even identify as Christians. But does doing good work, helping others, or regularly attending church make you a Christian? The answer is no.

The key to being a Christian lies in Romans 10:9, which says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Simply put, acknowledging Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection is what defines a true Christian.

None of us are gatekeepers to Heaven, nor are we in a position to judge others. Jesus Christ is the only gatekeeper of Heaven and the ultimate Judge of all. While we may observe the fruits of a person’s labor, we cannot judge their heart or claim to know who is "in" or "out." As the Scriptures say in John 14:6, Jesus is, "...the way, the truth, and the life." Therefore, it is essential to develop a personal relationship with Him.

The title "Christian" may have different meanings for different people. If you choose to reject Jesus Christ, that is your free choice. However, for me, I am thankful to be considered part of the true Christian community, and even more so, to be considered one of His servants. Titles and labels are secondary; a personal relationship with Jesus is what truly matters.
